Games We Play.

June 14, 2018

A look at digital transformation through the eyes of a game theory. There are two kinds of games. An infinite game and a finite game. A finite game has fixed rules and the players are constant. The game has a very clear start and ending point. Most of the games we play are finite. Soccer, baseball, ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ and board games are finite. These games promote short-term thinking. If you are Playing a finite game you are playing a game that satisfies your interests. An infinite game, on the other hand, is much different. In an infinite game, the…

Every Company Is A Software Company

June 6, 2018

What would your company be like, if it was originally a software company? How would the way you deliver your product or service be different? How would you interact with your customers? How would you infuse your offering with software to enhance the customer experience? This is a good exercise to understand the potential of digital transformation in  your organization. Here are some examples of software companies that have taken over entire industries. Amazon took over books Netflix took over movies Spotify took over music Skype & Whatsapp took over telecommunications Uber took over taxis Airbnb took over hotels Tesla took…

Digital Transformation Part 2 of 2

June 1, 2018

Last week I blogged about what a digital transformation is NOT. I want to touch on this concept again, just for a minute, because there is a lot of misleading information out there on the topic of digital transformation. Digital Transformation is not about IT or even technology. It is not about an app or the cloud, or a whole suite of apps on the cloud. Digital, if you remember from my previous blog, in this context is used as a synonym  to express the increasingly rapid pace of change to society brought on by the ubiquitous adoption of technology,…

Digital Transformation Part 1 of 2

May 25, 2018

How do you easily define an idea so abstract, it requires a Ted Talk to explain it. Here is a link to a very ‘Teddy’ Talk on the subject. What Does It Even Mean? Digital Transformation, It’s like saying you work in the in the ‘monetary acquisition” industry. The words make sense but put them together in a sentance? Yea, Good luck with that. I mean, what the hell does it even mean? The whole concept is fascinating to me. If you don’t know what a digital transformation is, read on. You need to know what it is, so you can…

An Interview With Standard Harvest Head Of Business Development.

May 16, 2018

Luis Camarena, Our Head of Business Development was recently interviewed by Hanah Park of Betty Blocks. Standard Harvest provides apps and platforms for organizations who are looking to digitize business processes. We simplify business processes by intelligently integrating smart technologies to maximize customer experience. How did you first learn about Betty Blocks? Luis: We were in search of an hpaPaaS platform to partner with. We wanted a platform with people behind the company, from the CEO down to the janitor, that understood that a platform is a platform, but on the business side, that’s where the difference is. “We wanted…

Digital Burgers, Analog Minds.

May 10, 2018

I went to Mcdonalds (Don’t judge) last night with my older brother. He is 12 years my senior and just a little bit of a technophobe. The whole concept of what Standard Harvest does is  completely foreign to him. McDonald’s was packed. You’d think they had the best burgers in the world! What else explains why they are always so busy? “Look,” I said, pointing to a row of kiosks, each one displaying a sideways mounted touchscreen monitor. “Let’s just use those.” He agreed and the line was avoided, the food delivered, unpackaged and rammed into our faces.  The familiar shame associated with…

Airplane Pilots and Developers

May 1, 2018

A study was done on two groups of people. Group 1: Veteran airplane pilots.  Group2: Non-pilots. They were each given a test: Who can read an airplane instrument panel the best where speed and accuracy are concerned. The focus was on the ‘six-pack,’ the six most important gauges in an airplane.   Veteran pilots spend thousands of hours interacting with this cluster. They hone their skills in serious ways. It can be a matter of life or death. And the non-pilots? Well, they were given ONLY two hours of class study and a heartfelt good luck! (I’m not sure about…

“Brain Bucks”

April 26, 2018

No code/low code development platforms are becoming hugely popular in business. Why? One reason is they help you manage your brain better. Sit! Stay! Think! An interesting experiment was done to dogs a while ago. Scientists divided a number of dogs into two groups. The first group was given the command to “stay” in one spot for 10 minutes and do nothing. The second group was put into  kennel for the same amount of time. After, both groups were given an impossible puzzle to solve (like the one in the picture) and observed to see how long they worked on it.…

There are very hungry code monsters…

April 20, 2018
code monster

The monsters have names like “digitalization” and “digital transformation”. They are starving for computer code and the people who write it. You probably recognize the monsters because they are companies like mine and companies like yours. Companies that take seriously the changes they need to make today, to stay in business tomorrow.

Who The BLEEP Cares About Your Silly Little Story Anyway?

April 14, 2018

previous post I don’t think you care about my story that much. Hopefully, you care about your business, your customers, and your employees? Yes? Good! So, let’s make this about you, shall we? Basic Assumptions First… You work for a company that sells something of value (a product or a service) to someone who buys it. Your customers are carbon-based life-forms who don’t live under a rock. Living above rocks means you need a smartphone to do just about everything. Carbon-based life forms use smartphones to engage with ideas, brands, communities, etc that they are interested in. If you aren’t engaging…
